The K’atl’odeeche First Nation band office is now accepting donations for the victim’s family according to CEO Peter Groenen.

“We just made it available because the family’s house burned down, so they need everything right now,” he told Moose FM.

“The community is a close-knit community so when things happen it’s a big shock to everybody.”

Groenen says there’s a lot of distress in the community following the tragedy.

“It’s our community. We’re the band office, and the band has governance responsibilities for the people so we do what we can to help.”
