Hay River RCMP investigating seven residential break-ins

Hay River RCMP are investigating after seven residences were broken into in the John Mapes Crescent and Miron Drive area early Saturday morning.

Sometime after 4 a.m., an unknown person or persons entered garages and a basement. The break and enters are currently being investigated, including the likelihood that they were related according to police.

“Unfortunately the suspects in these incidents have taken advantage of the trusting nature of Hay River residents,” said Cst. Matt Halstead with Hay River RCMP.

“The Hay River detachment is going to do the best we can to increase patrols in the community but all residents are encouraged to help with the prevention of these crimes.”

Police believe more instances like this may have taken place. They are encouraging members of the public to report anything if they believe their homes or vehicles may have been entered or rummaged through.

“The reports of the incidents help the RCMP track the scope of this activity,” Halstead explained.

“Even in instances where nothing was taken or no damage was committed, officers may be able to gather evidence that ties these incidents together and ultimately, help the police solve these crimes.”

RCMP are reminding the public to lock their doors and windows, and to make sure that their vehicles are secured.
