Flags at half-mast throughout NWT to mark Quebec shooting

Flags will be at half-mast throughout the NWT as of Tuesday to mark the victims of the tragic shooting at a Quebec mosque that killed six men Sunday night.

All government buildings will have their flags flown at half-mast until further notice, including at the Legislative Assembly and City Hall.

“The Northwest Territories is very respectful of the tragic events in Quebec,” said Carmen Moore, chief of protocol with the GNWT.

“We offer our condolences to all the Muslim community here. It affects everyone. It’s just important to show solidarity.”

Across the country, the Canadian flag is being flown at half-mast, including at the Peace Tower in Ottawa.

NWT Fire reported last evening that only two new fires had been identified in the territory.

The territorial government says water testing is underway after recent findings of bacteria, including E. coli recently detected at Fred Henne Territorial Park. Public swimming, wading and shoreline play at the main beach area have been temporarily restricted in the meantime.
