NWT Tourism launches “Secrets” campaign to attract visitors

NWT Tourism is trying to increase visitation to the Northwest Territories in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.

“Canada’s Northwest Territories has some of the best kept secrets, but only three per cent of Canadians travel to the territory each year,” read a statement issued by the organization Tuesday.

Until May 30, NWT Tourism will share little-known facts about the territory every day as part of its “Secrets” campaign. It will also be offering 150 opportunities for people to visit the NWT from pre-selected Canadian cities.

“We’d love to see more Canadians visit the Northwest Territories and share the spectacular secrets of the place we call home,” said Don Morin, chair of NWT Tourism.

NWT Tourism, the territory’s destination marketing organization, is offering 150 complimentary round-trip tickets from one of seven Canadian airports to Yellowknife.

Tickets can be won in a variety of ways, including an online contest, at Outdoor Adventure shows across the country or on radio stations in some of Canada’s larger cities.

“When you connect with the land, the people and our stories, there is something about the Northwest Territories that reaches inside you and then with a sense of surprise and awe, subtly changes you,” added Morin.

“It’s a land of many secrets just waiting to be discovered.”
