Free parking in downtown Yellowknife starts Thursday

For Yellowknifers trying to get last-minute Christmas shopping done downtown, parking’s about to become less of a hassle.

Starting Thursday, December 22 until December 30, downtown parking will be free.

Parking restrictions on Franklin Avenue between 3:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday will also be upheld.

The city also asks anyone parking downtown for extended periods of time to not park adjacent to storefronts so that access isn’t impeded.

Last year the city also offered free parking for the holidays, though that stretched into the New Year and also included free transit.
