A handgun was found unattended on the outskirts of the Con Mine industrial site Wednesday, police say.
The citizen who found it turned the weapon over to police, who have now opened an investigation.
RCMP say the handgun was found in an area that doesn’t see much traffic from cars or people, and say there are no public safety concerns in that regard.
What is concerning, though, is the fact that it was found unattended.

“We ask the citizens of Yellowknife to be vigilant with suspicious looking packages and report them directly to the RCMP,” said police spokesperson Marie York-Condon in a statement.
