GNWT launches anti-poverty website as roundtable wraps up

The territorial government launched a new anti-poverty website this week in conjunction with its fourth annual anti-poverty roundtable in Inuvik.

More than 50 people, including cabinet ministers, community leaders and band councils made their way to the community of 3,500 as part of the three-day forum.

This year marked the first time the roundtable was held outside of Yellowknife.

The purpose of the meeting, which wrapped up Wednesday, was to bring together multiple partners to share best practices and showcase projects supported by the Anti-Poverty Fund.

A new anti-poverty website was also unveiled, allowing users to find a list of currently funded initiatives and a means of applying for future funds in one centralized place.

Residents can also track progress on certain projects and read reports that have been tabled in the legislature.

Glen Abernethy, minister of health and social services, says more funding requests seem to come in every year.

Applications for anti-poverty funding for 2017-2018 are currently being collected.
