Sports and Jersey Day means free activities in Yellowknife Friday

Get active! That’s the message behind Sports and Jersey Day in Yellowknife as residents were encouraged to sport their favourite team’s apparel to work or school Friday.

In the afternoon, the City of Yellowknife is holding two free events for anyone wearing a jersey.

From 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., the fieldhouse will offer family-friendly games for all ages, including dancing, bowling and dodgeball.

The Ruth Inch Memorial Pool will also host a free community swim from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. for anyone who shows up in a jersey.

The pool will also celebrate National Sports Day Saturday with two free community swims from 1:00 to 2:55 p.m. and 6:00 to 7:55 p.m.

Jersey Day is meant to celebrate the importance of physical activity in the North and encourage people to get moving.

“Physical activity is good for everyone, both physically and mentally,” said Holly Ferris, special events coordinator with the City of Yellowknife.

“Just getting out and doing something fun and moving is important for everyone.”
