Six charges laid against suspect in Hay River armed robbery

Hay River RCMP have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with Tuesday’s armed robbery of The Rooster convenience store.

In the early hours of the morning, a male suspect walked into the store with what appeared to be a .22 calibre rifle. He then demanded cash from the clerk before making off with approximately $200 in loose bills.

Cameron Bernard faces six charges in total, including:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of weapon while prohibited
  • Possession of break-in instrument/ Disguise with intent
  • Possession of weapon without a license

“We are thankful for the investigative work undertaken by the Hay River RCMP and a quick arrest of the suspect involved in the reported robbery,” said police spokesperson Marie York-Condon.

“This will provide the citizens of Hay River some assurance that the person believed to be responsible has been arrested and charged.”

Bernard is scheduled to make a court appearance in Yellowknife Thursday.
