CCM donates $42K in hockey equipment to NWT programs

Sports equipment manufacturer CCM is donating more than $95,000 in hockey gear to two remote hockey programs in Canada, and a good chunk of that equipment will make its way to the NWT.

Hockey schools in the Northwest Territories and the Hockey Skills Academy Program in Sioux Lookout, Ont. will be the beneficiaries. More than $42,000 worth of gear will be donated to programs in the NWT.

In a news release, CCM says hockey schools in the NWT serve over 200 participants between the ages of four and 18 in communities like Yellowknife, Behchoko, Fort Providence, Inuvik and Aklavik.

“Through hockey, coaches and trainers help foster the skills students need to succeed both on and off the ice,” read a statement issued by the company last week.

“We understand that community support is integral to the success of youth hockey programs. Supporting programs that make hockey an accessible sport for all children is something we’re extremely proud of.”

CCM worked with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities to identify communities in need of donations. The company’s announcement is a timely one as it comes at the start of a new hockey season.
