Man charged for selling liquor illegally in Yellowknife

A man has been charged for selling and supplying liquor illegally in Yellowknife.

On Oct. 10, police say they witnessed an illegal sale of liquor while conducting a day patrol downtown. Officers apprehended the suspect and seized several bottles of alcohol and a small amount of cash.

David Girvan, 36, of Yellowknife has been charged with unlawful sale and supply under the territory’s Liquor Act.

Police say it’s important to break up this sort of activity because of who it tends to hurt.

“The unlawful sale of alcohol preys on those in society who may be struggling with addictions,” said police spokesperson Marie York-Condon in a statement.

“We continue to work with our community partners in disrupting the unlawful supply of alcohol to vulnerable persons, and working towards making Yellowknife streets safer for our citizens.”

Girvan is scheduled to make a court appearance on Dec. 1.
