‘Successful’ NWT camping season comes to a close for most parks

Parks across the Northwest Territories close for the season Thursday with the exception of Blackstone Territorial Park near Fort Liard.

The Dehcho region park will remain open for another month until Oct. 15.

The territory’s department of industry, tourism and investment says the extended season for Blackstone is designed to gauge demand and interest for the park.

Aurora viewers and hunters are expected to make up the majority of visitors during the extended season.

Meanwhile, the department says it was another successful season for territorial parks.

While official numbers have yet to be released, it’s believed that more people visited territorial parks this year compared to the 2015 season.
