MP to hold round table in YK focused on official languages

A member of parliament will be in Yellowknife on Wednesday for a bilingual consultation focused on official languages in Canada.

The round tables are being held across the country and are organized by the department of Canadian heritage, which is working toward a new multi-year action plan for official languages in Canada.

Yellowknife’s consultation will be facilitated by Edmonton MP Randy Boissonnault, who’s also the parliamentary secretary to Minister Mélanie Joly of Canadian heritage.

“The implementation of the Official Languages Act, particularly in the promotion of French and English and support of the vitality of official language minority communities is an important responsibility of the Government of Canada,” read the government of Canada’s website.

The events are attended by organizations representing the French and English linguistic minorities invited, as well as organizations promoting linguistic duality. You can also have your say anonymously through an online questionnaire.
