Curbside giveaway kicks off in YK this weekend

This weekend is a chance for you to get rid of those gently-used items that have been lying around the house, or to take home some second-hand items.

The city’s curbside giveaway weekend allows residents to leave unwanted items, in good working order (or labelled as not working), on the curb with a free sign from Friday at 4 pm until dusk on Monday. After 10pm on Monday, owners must remove any leftover items.

When stopping to check something out, the city asks you to  be respectful of others’ property and for property owners to safely tuck away any items you want to keep, so no confusion happens.

Some suitable items for the curb:

  • books, CDs, DVDs
  • furniture and small appliances
  • sports equipment
  • toys
  • yard and gardening equipment
  • kitchenware
  • electronics
  • clothing
  • paint
  • construction material (leftover wood, drywall, hardware, nails, screws, etc.)

Items that are NOT suitable for the curb:

  • any items that are not re-usable
  • dirty items
  • any items with bed bugs
  • expired items (helmets, car seats, etc.)

For anyone with large or oversized items, you’re asked to register for large item pick up by Friday, September 9 (for pick-up between September 12 and 16) or take smaller treasures to the solid waste facility during amnesty week from September 17 to 23.
