Three people charged after drug bust at downtown hotel in YK

Three males are facing charges for the possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking after a drug bust at a hotel in downtown Yellowknife.

The RCMP would not say which hotel was involved in the search warrant, but the investigation started at approximately 5:30 pm on Wednesday, August 24 and turned up approximately 260 grams of what is believed to be crack cocaine and a significant amount of cash.

In total, three males are facing charges for possession for the purpose of trafficking and charges for possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000:

  • Cody Brownlee, 18, of Fort McMurray, AB
  • Brandon Leach, 19, of Grande Prairie, AB
  • Taylor Peterson, 18, of Grande Prairie, AB

“Reducing, interrupting and deconstructing the illicit drug trade in our community continues to be a priority for Yellowknife RCMP,” said a press release from Marie York-Condon, RCMP spokesperson. “These arrests enable us to bring to justice those responsible for the harm that accompanies the trafficking and use of illicit drugs.”
