Broadcast of final Hip concert moved to Yellowknife Fieldhouse

Yellowknife residents who want to watch the Tragically Hip’s final concert in a group setting should make their way to the Fieldhouse on Saturday night instead of Somba K’e Civic Plaza.

Earlier this month, the City of Yellowknife announced it would show the band’s last set on a big screen outside City Hall on Aug. 20.

But those plans have since changed, with city officials announcing the Fieldhouse as a new venue.

The concert will be broadcast and streamed country-wide from 6:30pm to 9:30pm on CBC from the band’s hometown of Kingston, Ontario.

In May, the Hip announced that frontman Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Despite his diagnosis, the band decided to hold one last summer tour across the country.

The City of Yellowknife say residents are still encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and food even though the event will be held indoors.
