Northern cell, internet service restored following fibre line cut

Northwestel says cellular and internet service has been restored to customers in the NWT, Yukon and northern British Columbia following a fibre line cut in Alberta Tuesday.

Shortly before 10:00am, the company said a cut fibre optic cable in Edmonton was to blame for disruptions to some of its services.

By 1:00pm, technicians had implemented an ‘interim solution’ to fix cell problems while they worked to repair the cut.

In the meantime, customers were told to expect congestion trying to use long distance calling and accessing certain TV channels.

By 5:30pm, Northwestel announced that all repairs had been completed and services had been fully restored.
