Behchoko man charged after knocking vehicle off road

Charges have been laid against a Behchoko man who police say intentionally collided with another vehicle, sending it off the road.

The incident happened around 7:00am Monday, when RCMP say a man stopped to help a woman in distress on the side of Highway 3.

It was at that point that a man driving another vehicle intentionally struck them from behind, forcing their vehicle off the road.

Police say the two occupants of the overturned vehicle were taken to a local health facility for treatment while the driver fled the scene.

One of the victims was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital for further assessment but was later released. Police say the perpetrator was known to both victims.

Samuel Simpson, 57, has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance in Yellowknife Wednesday.

He’s facing a number of charges including assault with a weapon, assault, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and uttering threats.
