RCMP seize alcohol bound for Łutselk’e, charges pending

Several bottles of alcohol bound for Łutselk’e have been seized by RCMP in recent weeks.

Four people from Łutselk’e are expected to be charged under the territory’s Liquor Act, as liquor is illegal in the community.

“Bootlegging has been an issue in the community and seizures of alcohol help curtail problems that come along with the abuse of alcohol,” the RCMP said in an email.

The seizures include:

  • 16 bottles of vodka
  • Seven bottles of wine
  • 15 cans of beer
  • Two bottles of rum
  • One bottle of whisky
  • An orange juice container filled with liquor
