City gives green light for hotel at base of Twin Pine Hill

A new hotel is one step closer to reality in Yellowknife after city councillors granted conditional approval to Nova Builders during Monday’s committee meeting.

The hotel, if built, would be just next door to the Arnica Inn – at the base of Twin Pine Hill along Franklin Avenue. Plans call for the three-storey hotel to have 31 rooms.

The building was subject to the city’s design standards for Twin Pine Hill, which it passed, the city says.

Those standards require any development to “blend into the natural landscape by minimizing terrain disturbance” and “utilize natural features.”

They also require developers to make the trail system accessible to their property.

Nova Builders has pledged $15,000 toward the proposed Twin Pine Hill trail system. Nova is currently building a 146-room hotel next to the Explorer.
