A fire that broke at the Ekati diamond mine early Thursday morning has been contained, according to a news release issued by Dominion Diamond Corporation.
Officials say flames broke out around 7:00am during a planned outage in the mine’s process plant.
That prompted the diamond mine’s incident management team to be activated and respond to the situation. Its emergency response team was also called to the scene to contain the fire.
Dominion says flames have since been ‘contained’ and that all personnel were evacuated safely without injury.
“Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our workforce and of all the people involved in responding to this incident,” read a statement issued by the company.
“We will provide further information as it becomes available.”
