Yellowknife RCMP issue warning for suspicious door-knocker

Over the past few weeks, Yellowknife RCMP have received reports of a suspicious male knocking on doors in the NWT capital.

Police say when the door is answered, the male says he’s looking for work and usually offers to do yard work.

In the past, there have been occurrences of similar events leading to a break and enter when the door is not answered.

Police have three tips to help prevent property crime:

  • Do not leave tell-tale signs that you are away
  • Install good locks and always use them
  • Never open a door to strangers without credentials

There are organizations, businesses and charities that do canvass door-to-door though canvassers will usually wear identification.

If you doubt the legitimacy of someone at your door, report the activity to Yellowknife RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
