Construction season arrives for Yellowknife’s Franklin Avenue

Yellowknife’s Franklin Avenue will become a construction site near the city’s Old Town neighbourhood starting Monday.

The road into one of Yellowknife’s most popular summer areas will be rebuilt over the next couple months. The section is one of several undergoing repairs this construction season.

From now until August, workers will replace water and sewer lines, repave and fix a dip in the road at the bottom of the hill.

During that time, the road will be a one-lane, one way street heading down the hill while traffic going into the city will be diverted along School Draw Avenue.

Meanwhile, residents who want to access the Racquet Club or Fritz Theil Park will have to use 42 Street.

The City of Yellowknife has also announced changes to one of its transit routes effective Monday. While pickup times will remain unchanged, Route C will follow a new detour map until construction is complete.
