The NWT Brewing Company picked up a bronze medal for its best-selling beer at the 14th annual Canadian Brewing Awards in Vancouver, B.C this weekend.

The Canadian Brewing Awards challenge brewers of all sizes to participate in a blind tasting to determine who can create the best beer or cider in a number of categories.

Since 2002, medals have become a symbol of brewing excellence in the country. The competition also claims to attract more entries every year – from small startups to larger operations.

Every year, judges consider five different criteria when determining a drink of choice: aroma, appearance, flavour, mouth-feel and overall impression.

The Woodyard is the only establishment of its kind in the Northwest Territories. On New Year’s Eve, it began selling the first commercially brewed beer in the NWT since 1997.
