Police target dangerous driving as part of Road Safety Week

Law enforcement personnel will be stepping up their presence on the roads over the next seven days as part of Canada Road Safety Week.

Police will be teaming up with municipal and territorial partners across the NWT as part of the national initiative, which aims to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

That means you can expect to see more checkstops and roving patrols from now until May 23.

RCMP say they’ll be looking for dangerous driving habits like speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving especially.

Over 1,000 vehicles were checked as part of Canada Road Safety Week in the territory last year, resulting in over 180 driving infractions and four impaired drivers taken off the road.
