Prices at northern gas stations should drop in coming weeks, says expert

Yellowknife, NWT – Gas prices are down significantly across the country of late and experts are saying that trend could continue.

“Prices have dropped dramatically in places like Edmonton, Calgary, Regina and Winnipeg,” said Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com.

“In Toronto, drivers have seen a $0.25 drop in the past month and that is very much a sign of things to come.”

McTeague says lower crude oil prices are responsible for lower prices at the pumps in many parts of the country.

In Edmonton, drivers were paying less than a dollar earlier this week, which might have northerners asking: when will we catch a break at the pumps here in Yellowknife?

“I think you can expect to pay a little less at the pumps in the next several weeks – or even a month from now – when the inventory at gas stations in Yellowknife is replaced with fuel that is priced a lot lower than it was a few weeks ago,” said McTeague.

McTeague says northerners aren’t alone in their struggle though.

He says drivers in northern parts of Quebec and much of eastern Canada are also being hit hard at the pumps.
