Army reservists will conduct weapons training exercises 12 kilometers south of Dettah on Great Slave Lake Saturday.
Members of Yellowknife Company – of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment – will fire live ammunition on a prepared shotgun and machine gun range near Inner Island.
Shooting will take place during daylight hours only, beginning shortly after dawn and continuing into the afternoon.
The reserve unit says the range has been placed well outside heavy traffic areas and that sentries will scan the area for potential travelers.
Warning signs will also be visible in the area to alert the public of the exercise.
This marks the fifth year that Yellowknife reservists have conducted this type of training, which helps members operate effectively in arctic conditions.
