The 21st Snowking Winter Festival will kick off with the opening of the Snowcastle on Yellowknife Bay Tuesday afternoon.
Festival organizers will mark the occasion with a door-cutting ceremony at 12:15pm, which the public is invited to attend.
The door will be carved through a metre-thick wall of snow, launching a month of concerts, films and performances.
Construction crews began work in early January after ice was harvested from the lake late last year. A team of carvers recently put the finishing touches on the castle’s walls.
After today, the castle will be open to the public every day except Mondays until March 27.
