Father and son face drugs charges in Hay River

Police in Hay River say a father and his 26-year-old son have been arrested on drug trafficking charges after a search of two homes in the town.

Both raids took place at around 8pm on Wednesday. RCMP say 100 grams of crack cocaine, 1.4 kilos of marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia were seized.

Christian Girard, 55, and his son Antonio Mennillo were arrested. Girard has been released ahead of a court appearance in May; Mennillo is in custody and will appear in court on Monday.

Police are claiming it’s the “second significant drug seizure within a month” in Hay River, following the arrest of a teenager on charges related to crack cocaine and weed in January.

“This investigation continues the commitment of the Hay River RCMP to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs in the community,” RCMP added.
