Yellowknife’s Terry Fox Run attracts 250

Yellowknife, NWT – Organizers say 250 people took part in Sunday’s Terry Fox Run in Yellowknife.

That number is slightly down on the 290 who ran in last year’s event, which raises money for cancer research while remembering Terry Fox.

“It was exhausting but it was great,” said Karlee Bell, one of those running on Sunday. “A nice, sunny day, it couldn’t be a better day for the Terry Fox Run.

“My boyfriend is a survivor of cancer and I have other family members that have passed away from cancer. So it’s pretty dear to my heart.”

Jodie Brennan, also taking part, said: “We know lots of people with cancer and we’re really happy to be able to do this in memory of those guys and people that are still fighting this disease.”

Dylan Robichaud, who helped to organize this year’s Terry Fox Run, hopes donations will still match 2013’s total.

“We had approximately 250 out for the run – not counting dogs,” Robichaud told Moose FM.

“Approximately $20,000 was raised but we’re still waiting on community groups as well as online donations to come in.

“Last year we raised $30,000, said and done. Right now we’re close to hitting that track.”

Donations are still being accepted online at
