Top NWT Mountie to resign at the end of April

Yellowknife, NWT – The RCMP have announced that the territory’s top Mountie is retiring at the end of the month.

Chief Superintendent Wade Blake has been the RCMP’s Commanding Officer in the NWT since February 2010, but will work his last day on Apr.30.

The Mounties say Blake will remain in Yellowknife but will be transitioning over to the Department of Justice to serve as the new Director of Community Justice and Policing.

Superintendent Ron Smith, who has more than 23 years of service with the RCMP, will be named as Blake’s successor.

A tentative date of July 9th has been set for the official Change of Command ceremony at the Legislature.
