You can consider our bus well and truly stuffed.
Yellowknifers turned out in their droves for our annual Stuff the Bus food drive on behalf of the YK Food Bank, and we’re incredibly grateful.
From 9am till 5pm on Saturday, December 5, generous residents shopping at the Yellowknife Co-op purchased more than 500 $25 food hampers for families who need a little help this holiday season.
We await the final figures on Monday, but we’re pretty sure we smashed last year’s already impressive total. We’re hoping to finish up somewhere near 10,000 pounds of food.
You can still help – food hampers remain available in very limited quantities at the Co-op, and non-perishable food donations will also be accepted for the following week at Quality Furniture and Aurora Ford.
“A huge thanks to all of our generous Stuff the Bus sponsors for their support and prize donations,” said Moose FM general manager Robin Ram. In particular, we’d like to thank Vanessa at AutoTec and Darcy at DC Moving for their valiant efforts throughout the day.
At 5pm, we waved off a big, yellow school bus stuffed with food hampers and other food donations. None of us can remember the bus being quite so full before.
Thanks, Yellowknife. We’re proud to be your radio station.
