RCMP make drug bust in Yellowknife

Yellowknife, NWT – A Yellowknife man is facing multiple charges after an RCMP investigation.

Police say they found marijuana, money, prohibited weapons and various other items used in the drug trafficking trade after executing a search warrant at a Yellowknife residence on Friday.

Sergeant Barry Ledoux explains the negative impact of narcotics.

“The whole drug trade has a serious effect on the community in several different aspects. It affects those that are using, those that are family members of these people and it affects innocent by-standers. It’s a huge effect when you look at what this type of crime does to a community.”

Ledoux says RCMP were aided in the investigation.

“RCMP Federal Investigations Unit with the assistance of Yellowknife General Investigations System and RCMP Police Dog Services executed a Search Warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act here in Yellowknife.”

A 21-year-old male was arrested and then later released on a Promise to Appear.

He is set to appear in Yellowknife Territorial Court on July 8th.
