RCMP seize crack from Yellowknife apartment unit

Police say they found a ‘significant’ amount of crack cocaine during a raid at Yellowknife’s Fort Gary Apartments.

RCMP searched a unit of the Gitzel Street apartment complex at around 3:30pm on Monday. Five people were arrested in connection with the raid, none of whom have yet been identified.

“During the search police located and seized approximately 573 grams of crack cocaine and 201 grams of powder cocaine, and 29 grams of marijuana,” read an RCMP statement issued on Tuesday.

Three of those arrested were found in the apartment, while two were arrested elsewhere. Three of the five are from outside the territory. Charges are pending.

“This investigation is part of the Yellowknife RCMP commitment to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs in the community,” concluded the police statement.

It’s just over two months since police in the city last reported a crack cocaine haul of this kind. In mid-September, officers said they had discovered more than 1,100 pre-packaged rocks of crack in a car outside Yellowknife.
