The sound of Christmas in Yellowknife: 20 blasts a day

Blasting begins at the site of the new Stanton Territorial Hospital on Monday.

According to a festive territorial government statement, anyone in the vicinity can expect up to 20 blasts each day – and it could go on for five days a week until March 2016.

There will be no blasting on Wednesdays or Sundays, with the exception of Wednesday, December 2. On other days, expect some yuletide Yellowknife rumbling between 7am and 8pm.

The blasting comes with disruption to roads in the area, adjacent to the present Stanton hospital.

Flaggers will stop nearby traffic during blasting operations and Byrne Road will be closed for parking from Monday onward. Any vehicles left on Byrne Road will be ticketed and towed.
