8th annual L.E.T.R Herc Pull in Yellowknife raises over $16,000

Yellowknife, NWT – The 8th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Herc Pull is taking place in Yellowknife Saturday morning.

The public is encouraged to make their way to the R.C.M.P hangar for registration at 10:30 am.

Teams will start pulling around noon.

Director Lea Martin of the Northwest Territories chapter of L.E.T.R says all proceeds will go towards N.W.T Special Olympics.

“Special Olympics is an organization made up of individuals who have intellectual difficulties. Through sport and comradery, they get to compete but for the most part, athletes are interested in getting together and socializing through sport.”

Martin says teams of 15 will be challenged with pulling the 90,000 pound Hercules a distance of 15 feet, the fastest team in each division will receive a trophy.

She says a total of $18,000 was raised during last year’s event.
