City of Yellowknife conducts emergency response exercise Friday

Yellowknife, NWT – If you’ve heard more sirens than usual in the capital this afternoon, there’s good reason for it.

The city of Yellowknife says it is coordinating an emergency response exercise on the Ingraham Trail.

In a news release, the city says Exercise Operation Ouch is taking place on the southbound lane of Highway 4 just north of the City’s Solid Waste Facility entrance.

The exercise is designed to test communication upgrades and an expanded emergency management system.

The scenario presented to emergency responders is a two vehicle collision between a minibus and a passenger car where 13 people will need to be transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital.

The city says it is working in partnership with the R.C.M.P, Stanton Territorial Hospital and Yellowknife’s Airport Fire Department throughout the exercise.
